Communications Officer (Interns)

Position Summary

USICES is seeking an enthusiastic graduate student with excellent web designing and communications skills for its Communications Internship.  Under the supervision of a Program Officer, the intern will provide support in the updating of and general maintenance of USICES website and manage USICES’s social media accounts and newsletter mailing lists. He/she will assist in the implementation of USICES’s communication strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of USICES’s communications strategy(s)
  • Drafting of press releases and report writing
  • Support management and postings in USICES’s social media accounts
  • Supports the preparation and implementation of communications and dissemination of information and publications; assistance at public events such as roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, interviews and project visibility plans
  • Maintenance of information database along with photo library and photo captions
  • Develop and implement a fundraising communication strategy
  • Administrative and logistical support to USICES program officers and consultants, including for initiatives such as media workshops, press briefings, report launches, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing graduate student, or a recent graduate student in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital / Social Media, Journalism, or possibly in International Relations, International Humanitarian Law, Political Sciences, including other relevant graduate programs in international development, human rights, public policy, law, democracy, or international development.
  • Knowledge of Dreamweaver and HTML knowledge/ PHP, CSS and/or XML
  • Sound knowledge of video integration (including flash player plug-in integration with social media)
  • Audio/Video recording and editing experience
  • New Media skills (website integration and strategy)
  • Web design experience
  • Interest in international development
  • Oral and written proficiency in English
This is a 20 to 30 hours/week internship with stipends. All applicants must have the right to work in the U.S without employer sponsorship.
